  • New Firm Information Service (FIS) pilot

    On November 1, 2017, OBSI launced a three-month long pilot project of the Firm Information Service (FIS) to all participating firms. The service will provide information about OBSI's experiences and approach in order to help firms fairly and effectively resolve complaints.

  • OBSI Firm Survey

    OBSI received valuable feedback from participating firms during its first annual participating firm survey which was distributed in December 2016.

  • OBSI Announces New Deputy Ombudsman

    Sarah P. Bradley, Ombudsman and CEO, Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments (OBSI) today announced that Grace McSorley will be joining the organization in the position of Deputy Ombudsman, effective July 4, 2017.

  • Four New Community Directors Join OBSI’s Board

    OBSI’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce the election of four new community directors following the recent annual general meeting held on February 29, 2016 in Toronto. The four directors come from across Canada, bringing a diversity of skills and experience from both the public and private sectors.

  • Invitation to Comment on the Independent Evaluation of OBSI

    In accordance with the ‘Memorandum of Understanding concerning oversight of the Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments’ (MOU) between the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) and the Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments (OBSI), OBSI is required to submit itself to an independent evaluation of its operations and practices for investment-related complaints commencing no later than May 1, 2016.

  • OBSI Approved as Banking External Complaint Body

    OBSI today received federal Minister of Finance approval as an External Complaint Body (ECB) for banking complaints under the Bank Act.

  • Sentinel Refuses to Compensate Retired Investor

    OBSI today announced the refusal of Sentinel Financial Management Corp. to compensate a retired investor in the amount of $55,000.

  • Search for New Ombudsman and CEO

    A search is underway for a new Ombudsman and CEO at OBSI, and OBSI’s Board of Directors has engaged an executive search firm – Desautels Consulting – to assist with this process.
